IoT for Digital Economy - Prof Suhaidi Hassan

The IoT for Digital Economy

The Internet of Things (IoT) is eliminating the segregation between the Internet and the physical world. Although IoT itself is not new, the combination of sensor technology, increasing bandwidth and the augmented intelligence (AI) may spark an explosion of pervasive connectivity; practically everything that can be connected will be connected. This will transform whole economies and societies. This transformation of digital economy will progress significantly over the next decade, fueled by continuous innovations in technology and business models. The advances in IoT promotes technological paradigm shift as the digital and physical worlds meet. This technological revival will disrupt existing economic structures and business models in ways that society is only beginning to understand. In a hyperconnected world, no sector of the economy will be untouched by technology and only those who adapt quickly to technological change will be successful. While innovation brings opportunity, the shift to a hyperconnected world raises key questions and uncertainties for the future. As the Internet will be used to control objects, infrastructure and much of our environment, questions about privacy, interoperability, regulation and security will need to be urgently answered. This lecture will explore the challenges and opportunities of the IoT and its implications on the digital economy of the near future.
